Often dubbed the "youngest old-timer" in the business, Brittany's journey has been marked by a passion for excellence and a commitment to industry evolution.
Brittany's roots in the background screening industry run deep, having attended the inaugural National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) conference at the tender age of 12. This early exposure set the stage for her comprehensive understanding of the industry's evolution. Grounded in hands-on experience, Brittany honed her skills working across Operations, Verifications, Criminal Research, Compliance, and Sales within prominent industry giants.
A trailblazer in her own right, Brittany achieved the distinction of being the youngest board member appointed to the PBSA (formerly NAPBS). Notably, she served as the Co-Chair of the Marketing Sub Committee, a pivotal role within the Communications Committee, and assumed the position of Chair of the Membership Relations and Retention Committee.
Over the past decade, Brittany identified a crucial gap in the industry—lack of dedicated customer service. In response, she founded Alliance Background with a mission to provide customizable solutions tailored to each organization's unique needs. The core ethos revolves around delivering enterprise-level solutions with a personalized touch, a vision that has set Alliance Background apart in the industry.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Brittany, a proud Floridian, embraces a life filled with volunteering, boating, fishing, and cherished moments with her husband and son. In his role as Executive Vice President at Alliance Background, Curt plays a pivotal role in implementing the company's long-term strategic plan. His responsibilities encompass critical areas such as educational training, webinar content, business continuity, operational support, and regulatory compliance. Curt's unique approach combines operational and strategic growth insights with exceptional compliance expertise, ensuring that Alliance Background consistently upholds the highest standards of quality, service, and integrity for its clients and partners.
Certified as a Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) and holding a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Eastern Michigan University, Curt brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his leadership role. His dedication to industry excellence is further demonstrated through three terms of service on the Board of Directors for The Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA), showcasing his commitment to governance and industry best practices.
In his capacity as the Dean of Advanced Background Screening Studies at Screening University, Dean Schwall oversees the development of undergraduate programs at ScreeningU. His responsibilities include curriculum development, admissions processes, and fostering ongoing learning opportunities for enrolled candidates. Melissa Zepeda
In-House Counsel and Vice President of Compliance

A distinguished legal professional, Melissa Zepeda, serves as In-House Counsel and the Vice President of Compliance at Alliance Background LLC. Ms. Zepeda is a proud member of the Georgia Bar Association and holds certification from the Florida Bar to serve as in-house counsel. Her extensive legal background includes serving as in-house counsel with Lincare Holdings Inc., where she managed diverse legal matters such as federal and state court litigation, human resources, risk mitigation, liability exposure, contracts, intellectual property, and software development.
A graduate of Emory University and the John Marshall Law School, Melissa's commitment to legal excellence is evident not only in her professional achievements but also in her academic pursuits. During law school, she founded and served as the President of the Animal Law Society (SALDF) from 2005 to 2007, showcasing her dedication to legal advocacy and community involvement.
In her pivotal role at Alliance Background, Melissa Zepeda spearheads corporate compliance initiatives and provides direct oversight and management of all compliance programs. Her legal acumen guides the organization through complex legal matters, including state and federal legislation, government affairs, policy initiatives, EEO law, client education, adjudication, pre/adverse action processes, and client and vendor contract management.
